The Network
Far from being a single center of scientific excellence, the Nestlé Research Center is the hub of a worldwide research community, internally, with leading scientists from around the world, and externally, in collaboration with key international research institutions and universities. For more information on global collaboration, see At a Glance.
The role of NRC within Nestlé is pivotal in helping fulfil Nestlé's vision of making Good Food for Good Life. The heart of Nestlé’s entire R&D network, NRC conducts research on nutrition, health and wellness issues, thus using research findings to generate new product concepts targeting consumer health and wellness needs.
Research concepts from NRC are transformed into product applications and processes through Nestlé’s international network of Product Technology Centers (PTCs) and R&D Centers.
Product Technology Centers exist for each specific product category including: Dairy, Coffee & Beverages, Chocolate, Confectionery & Biscuits, Ice Cream, Prepared Dishes & Culinary products, Petcare and Food Services. PTCs also direct programs for product innovation and packaging.
The worldwide Nestlé R&D Centers have a slightly different role, working both globally and locally to adapt products and processes to local tastes and needs. Tastes differ widely from country-to-country and region-to-region, which Nestlé R&D takes into consideration during product development.
The worldwide network of PTCs and R&D Centers function closely with NRC and with Nestlé Strategic Business Units to provide scientific support for the entire Nestlé product range. The end result is products with added taste, convenience and nutrition that answer consumer needs. Consumers truly are at the center of the Nestlé network.
